Teff
Native to the dry plateaus of northeastern Africa Also known
as “lovegrass” and “miléthiopien,” teff originated in what is today Ethiopia
and Eritrea, where it has been grown for centuries and continues to play a
central role in the regional cuisine.
Amazingly teff grows very well under difficult conditions
such as unpredictable rainfall and is usually left alone by pests and disease.
Teff is rich in nutrients, providing all
eight essential amino acids, and is a great source of carbohydrates and fiber.
It is also high in the nutritionally important minerals calcium, phosphorus, magnesium,
aluminum, iron, copper, zinc, boron, barium, and thiamine.
Safou
Indigenous to the humid, tropical
forests of West and Central Africa, safou (Dacryodesedulis) is known as the “butterfruit” for its rich and
oily pulp, although Safou is creamy and delicious.
Nutritional
benefits;
Like Its namesake, safou is high in fats
and is very calorie dense .But unlike butter; safou is also high in amino acids,
the chemical building blocks of proteins. Concentrations Of some the safou’s essential
amino acids, such as lysine and leucine, are comparable to those found in eggs and
meat. The Fruit is also high in micro-nutrients and minerals, particularly potassium,
calcium, and magnesium, making safou a “superfood” With the potential to help
